Eye Examinations
Non-sworn
Members who use visual display units (VDU’s or computers) for at least 50 percent of their normal working time are entitled to an eye test at the Police expense. Prior notice must be given to the member’s manager before before any appointment is made. If
the test discloses that prescription spectacles are required for the
normal viewing distance of a VDU, or that an eyesight problem has been
created or worsened by VDU, then the cost of single vision spectacles will
be met by the Police up to a maximum of $250.00 or in the case of bi-multifocal
spectacles, up to a maximum of $325.00. Once the
eye examination is complete and if spectacles have been prescribed, the
optometrists invoice, should be referred to the local accounts section for
payment. Any amounts payable
for spectacles over and above the costs stated above are to be met by the
member. For example: A member’s eye examination costs $50.00, the frames cost $350.00 and the
lenses cost $80.00, a total of $480.00.
Police will reimburse a member $250.00 and the member is required
to pay the remaining $230.00. The member should pay the $230.00 directly to the optometrist
and the balance of $250.00 should be invoiced to Police. Sworn Those
working in Communications Centres are eligible for a ‘once only’
eye examination if they use a VDU for at least 50 percent of their shift.
A member’s manager must be notified and approval must be given
before the eye examination. Sworn
staff working in other areas of Police are not covered. |
